The New Jersey Devils have once again failed to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, marking a disappointing trend as this is the third time in five years that they have missed the postseason. According to Yahoo Sports, there was optimism after the 2022-23 season that the team would make a playoff berth streak, but the team finished 12 points out of the playoffs with a 42-37-3 record.
In light of this situation, the Devils have made a significant change in their front office by hiring Sunny Mehta as their new general manager. Mehta, who has a notable history with the Florida Panthers, expressed excitement about the young core of the Devils and the need to return the team to its former glory.
Meanwhile, rookie Arseny Gritsyuk shared his experiences from his first NHL season, highlighting the challenges he faced but also showing promise as a contributor moving forward. Gritsyuk ended his rookie campaign with 31 points in 66 games before a season-ending shoulder injury.
Additionally, trade rumors surrounding the Devils and the Toronto Maple Leafs indicate that there were discussions about acquiring star player Matthew Knies, but it appears those talks have now cooled.
The Devils’ management faces a crucial offseason with decisions to make regarding their roster and future direction as they aim to improve after a disappointing season.
