Canadiens sign Szuber to one-year deal

The Montreal Canadiens have signed defenceman Maksymilian Szuber to a one-year, two-way contract, as announced by the team on August 3, 2026. Szuber, a 23-year-old left-shot defender, was acquired from the Utah Mammoth in exchange for the rights to forward Joshua Roy.

His new contract carries an $850,000 NHL cap hit, with a $135,000 salary in the AHL, and a guaranteed minimum earning of $175,000 for the season. Szuber was originally selected by the Arizona Coyotes in the sixth round of the 2022 NHL Draft and has spent his professional career thus far with the Tucson Roadrunners, where he recorded 87 points and 162 penalty minutes over 200 AHL games.

His impressive AHL performance included a career-high 11 goals last season, positioning him as a promising addition to the Canadiens' defensive lineup. The Canadiens still have three restricted free agents to deal with this offseason, including Zack Bolduc and Arber Xhekaj, who played significant roles in the previous season's playoff run.
