Canadiens bolster coaching staff, retain players

The Montreal Canadiens have made significant changes by appointing Derek Lalonde as their associate coach, a move aimed at enhancing their coaching structure. Lalonde, who has a successful coaching background including winning two Stanley Cups with the Tampa Bay Lightning, brings valuable experience to the team.

He will serve under head coach Martin St. Louis, marking a first for an assistant coach in Montreal with prior NHL head coaching experience. Additionally, the Canadiens re-signed forwards Jared Davidson and Hunter McKown to one-year, two-way contracts.

Davidson, a fifth-round draft pick, had a productive season with the Laval Rocket, scoring 51 goals in three years and making a brief NHL appearance last season. Meanwhile, McKown, acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets, has solid minor league production and is expected to provide versatility as he can play both center and wing.

These moves reflect the Canadiens' commitment to developing their talent pool and strengthening the team's overall performance.
