Two days after managing just 12 shots on net in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 2, the Montreal Canadiens had 13 shots in a 3-2 overtime loss in Game 3. The Canadiens, averaging the fewest shots per game in the playoffs, are struggling to generate offense.

Winger Cole Caufield stated, 'It's tough to create offence,' emphasizing the need to generate more shots. Montreal set a modern-day record for the least amount of shots in a post-season win in the first round, and now, three games into the series, their shot total is concerning.

During Game 3, with the score tied 2-2, the Canadiens were outshot 7-1 in the third period and again outshot 6-1 in overtime. This brought about chants of 'shoot the puck' from the Bell Centre crowd. Despite having chances, such as a missed breakaway by Nick Suzuki and a shot by Mike Matheson that hit the crossbar, the Canadiens couldn't find the net.

Coach Martin St-Louis remarked on the mental challenges of the situation, stating, 'You can't let that affect your next decision. Obviously, we don't want to pass up on shots.' The Canadiens ranked 30th during the regular season, averaging 25.9 shots per game, and in the playoffs, they have managed just 23.5 shots per game.

The Hurricanes, being the stingiest defensive team in the regular season, are contributing to Montreal's offensive struggles, having allowed only 24.4 shots per game. Matheson noted, 'We've got a great opportunity to come back here in our building and get a win in Game 4.'
