Quinn Hughes, a standout defenseman for the Minnesota Wild, has expressed his desire to remain with the team, indicating that a contract extension could be on the horizon. Hughes made a significant impact after being traded from the Vancouver Canucks to the Wild, recording 53 points in 48 games during the regular season.
He also led the NHL in ice-time average, and his postseason contributions helped lead the Wild to a first-round upset of the Dallas Stars before their elimination by the Colorado Avalanche. Hughes stated, "I really like it here.
I would definitely be open to re-signing," as he enters the final season of his six-year contract. Meanwhile, the Wild are navigating tough roster decisions following their playoff exit, particularly after key players Jonas Brodin and Joel Eriksson Ek were sidelined by injuries, which greatly affected the team's performance against Colorado.
Brodin had a fractured toe, while Eriksson Ek suffered a heel injury, both of which forced them to miss crucial playoff games. Brodin reflected, "It's awful to not play in the playoffs. Best time of the year." The Wild's attempts to strengthen their roster included interest in St.
Louis Blues' center Robert Thomas, but their trade offer, reportedly involving goaltender Jesper Wallstedt and center Danila Yurov, was declined. These developments highlight the Wild's ambitions and the challenges they face in the offseason as they look to improve their competitiveness for the upcoming season.
