The Minnesota Wild are actively exploring trade targets to enhance their roster, with New York Rangers center Vincent Trocheck emerging as a significant option. According to Gone Puck Wild, the Wild had discussions with the Rangers about Trocheck prior to the February trade deadline but were deterred by New York's high asking price.

General manager Bill Guerin had hoped that the price would decrease, as Chris Johnston from The Athletic lists Trocheck as the top asset on his trade board ahead of the offseason. Trocheck, a veteran center with experience as a solid faceoff man and penalty killer, could address the Wild's pressing need for a No. 1 center.

During the playoffs, Minnesota's penalty kill struggled, allowing 15 power play goals on 38 chances, resulting in a 61.6 percent kill rate. Trocheck's faceoff success rate last season was 56.9 percent, contributing to his appeal.

Guerin's previous relationship with Trocheck from their time on the United States Olympic team adds to the likelihood of the Wild pursuing him. However, the Rangers' asking price remains a concern, and earlier this year, the Wild reportedly offered a 2023 first-round draft pick, Charlie Stramel, along with the team's 2027 first-round pick and another player or prospect for Trocheck, but the Rangers declined.

With the free agent market drying up, other teams will likely compete for Trocheck's services, potentially leading to a bidding war that could complicate Minnesota's efforts. The Wild's interest in Trocheck reflects their commitment to improving their competitiveness as the season progresses.
