Kirill Kaprizov's contract is already posing challenges for the Minnesota Wild's offseason plans. When Kaprizov signed his $136 million deal in September 2022, it was met with celebration, but as the contract takes effect next season, it complicates the team's financial landscape.

According to The Athletic's Michael Russo, the Wild face significant difficulties with Vladimir Tarasenko and Mats Zuccarello entering free agency, and Marcus Johansson's departure to Sweden, all while managing Kaprizov's $17 million annual average value.

With only $12 million of cap space available, and the need to re-sign key players like Zuccarello, the Wild are in a precarious position. Kaprizov expressed his desire for Zuccarello to return, yet the team must evaluate their options, including potential acquisitions like Dylan Larkin, who would command a considerable salary.

The report indicates that the Wild may need to make substantial roster changes, possibly trading long-standing veterans such as Ryan Hartman, Jonas Brodin, or captain Jared Spurgeon to alleviate cap constraints.

Russo also noted other players like Yakov Trenin and Jake Middleton might be moved as the team navigates its offseason strategy. The irony noted in Russo's report is that Kaprizov's contract, while justified by his performance as a four-time 40-goal scorer, is forcing the Wild to rethink their approach as they aim for a Stanley Cup run.
