Mike Babcock has been cleared by the NHL to resume coaching, following an investigation into his brief tenure with the Columbus Blue Jackets. The NHL's investigation, prompted by concerns from the NHL Players' Association, focused on allegations surrounding Babcock's conduct, notably his request to view players' personal photos on their phones.

The league concluded there was no sufficient basis to restrict his employment, acknowledging the NHLPA's concerns about Babcock's behavior. The Edmonton Oilers are reportedly interested in hiring Babcock, with contract talks expected to begin soon.

Veteran players on the Oilers have shown support for Babcock, despite backlash from former players who have publicly criticized him, including Aaron Ward, who labeled the Oilers 'idiots' for pursuing him.

Ward recounted his own negative experiences with Babcock, highlighting a culture of resentment that has reportedly existed among players he has coached. Paul Bissonnette expressed concerns about Babcock's treatment of role players, emphasizing that his coaching style has often led to friction outside the star players.

The Oilers are moving forward with Babcock as a candidate for head coach, despite the mixed reactions within the hockey community, as they seek stability after parting ways with Kris Knoblauch following a disappointing playoff run.
