The New York Rangers were officially eliminated from playoff contention after a 4-3 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on March 25, 2026, marking the second consecutive season they will miss the postseason.

The Rangers, who fired off a season-high 43 shots, found themselves trailing 3-0 by the second period. Jake McCabe opened the scoring for the Leafs, followed by goals from Nicholas Robertson and Dakota Joshua.

Despite a spirited rally with power-play goals from Mika Zibanejad and Alexis Lafreniere, the Rangers could not overcome the deficit. Joseph Woll stood strong in goal for Toronto, making 40 saves to secure the victory.

Zibanejad netted two goals while Lafreniere contributed with a goal and two assists, but it wasn't enough as the Rangers dropped their sixth straight game. The loss leaves them at 28-35-9, with coach Mike Sullivan expressing dissatisfaction with their current position.

Adam Sykora made his NHL debut for the Rangers, playing alongside Trocheck and Cuylle, and made a notable impact despite the loss. Following this defeat, the Rangers will face the Chicago Blackhawks in their next matchup.

The Maple Leafs, on the other hand, continue their push for playoff positioning, having won two straight games.
