The Vegas Golden Knights are seriously considering a goaltending change as they approach Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Carolina Hurricanes. Carter Hart has struggled mightily, becoming the first goaltender in Stanley Cup Final history to allow four or more goals in each of the first five games, with a goals against average of 3.70 and a save percentage of .856, according to Jesse Granger from The Athletic.
Adin Hill, who had a significant role in the Golden Knights' Stanley Cup victory last season, could step in as a potential starter. Hill has previously succeeded in relief roles, posting impressive numbers during critical playoff moments, including a 2.17 GAA and .932 save percentage in the 2023 playoffs.
Despite Hill's playoff pedigree, head coach John Tortorella has expressed reluctance to make the switch, citing a trust in Hart who has performed well previously. However, as the Knights trail the series 3-2, the urgency for a change increases, especially with the possibility of being without William Karlsson due to injury.
The Golden Knights' defense has also been under scrutiny, as it has failed to support Hart adequately throughout the series, further complicating the decision ahead of Game 6 at T-Mobile Arena. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes are on the brink of winning their first Stanley Cup, bolstered by the performance of rookie goaltender Brandon Bussi, who has quickly become a fan favorite in Carolina, further raising the stakes for Vegas in this crucial matchup.
