The Philadelphia Flyers have taken a commanding 3-0 lead in their playoff series against the Pittsburgh Penguins, raising questions about the Penguins' ability to bounce back. According to Broad Street Hockey, despite the Flyers' strong position, they face a potential hurdle with their starting goaltender Dan Vladar dealing with an injury sustained during Game 3.
Vladar was struck on the arm by Penguins forward Bryan Rust, leading to concerns about his status for Game 4. Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet stated Vladar felt better but did not guarantee he would start, which could mean backup Sam Ersson would be in net.
Ersson has performed well since the Olympic break, boasting a solid 1.71 goals-against average in that stretch. The Flyers are keen on closing out the series quickly, needing just one more win to advance to the second round.
The team's defensive structure has been highlighted as a critical factor in their success, making it difficult for opponents to generate offense. Broad Street Hockey also discussed potential players who could deliver the knockout blow to the Penguins, including the young forward Porter Martone and veteran Sean Couturier, who has played a significant role in the playoffs.
As they prepare for Game 4, the Flyers aim to avoid giving the Penguins any momentum, particularly with the looming uncertainty around Vladar's availability.
