As the NHL trade deadline approaches on March 6th, the Edmonton Oilers are actively seeking defensive help to improve their playoff prospects. According to Oilers Nation, one potential target is Oliver Ekman-Larsson, currently with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Ekman-Larsson, a left-shot defenceman, has had a resurgence this season with eight goals and 35 points in 59 games. However, concerns exist regarding his fit within the Oilers' roster due to the abundance of left-shot defencemen.
The Oilers could facilitate acquiring Ekman-Larsson by trading Andrew Mangiapane, whose cap hit of $3.6 million would align well with Ekman-Larsson's $3.5 million cap hit. Oil on Whyte reports that the Oilers have about $10,000 in cap space and will need to create more room to make significant moves.
Additionally, NHL insider David Pagnotta mentioned that Adam Henrique's name has surfaced as a player who could be moved, although he has full no-trade protection. The Oilers are expected to be active in the market, aiming to enhance both their defensive lineup and overall team depth ahead of the deadline.
