With the recent re-signing of restricted free agent Colton Dach, Edmonton Oilers general manager Stan Bowman continues to have a remarkable offseason. Following the team's exit from the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the first round against the San Jose Sharks, many believe this setback could be a blessing in disguise, allowing the core players to recover.

Bowman's strategic moves include the notable trade of Darnell Nurse, where he managed to part ways with the player without retaining salary or giving up significant assets, despite Nurse being viewed as the best player in the deal.

The NHL Entry Draft may have been considered underwhelming, but the Oilers focused on present needs and acquired some assets. Early summer signings, including deadline acquisitions Connor Murphy and Jason Dickinson, have committed long-term to the team.

The recent contract for Dach brings the Oilers closer to fielding a complete roster. While free agency did not yield massive signings, the Oilers successfully re-signed competitive winger Kasperi Kapanen and bolstered their goaltending and defensive depth without overspending their cap space, allowing for potential trades as the season progresses.

This offseason has positioned the Oilers for a more competitive and consistent roster heading into the 2026-27 season, with flexibility to add impactful players as needed, according to Oil on Whyte.
