The Edmonton Oilers have been in the spotlight for their post-game comments following several heated matchups in the 2025-26 season. One of the most controversial statements came from goalie Tristan Jarry after a 7-3 loss to the Minnesota Wild on January 31.

Jarry deflected responsibility, stating, "I think the chances we were giving up, some of the shots. They’re tough." This sparked buzz among teammates who felt he wasn't taking accountability, contrasting sharply with the previous mindset of former Oilers netminder Stuart Skinner, who often accepted blame.

Leon Draisaitl also stirred the pot after a 4-3 loss to the Calgary Flames, saying, "It’s a two-way street, but it starts with us in front of him," while also indicating that coaches needed to improve.

Meanwhile, Connor McDavid praised Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper after a 5-2 loss, which some interpreted as a veiled criticism of then-Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch. Following the playoff exit to the Ducks, McDavid described the team as "an average team all year" in a reflection that raised eyebrows and indicated a need for change, especially after Knoblauch and assistant coach Mark Stuart were relieved of their duties on May 14.

This candid communication has raised questions about team morale and accountability, as players navigate the challenges of the season amidst scrutiny from fans and media alike.
