The Edmonton Oilers made significant moves this offseason, starting with the trade of defenseman Darnell Nurse to the San Jose Sharks. Nurse, who played 12 seasons with the Oilers, was traded for defensemen Shakir Mukhamadullin and Zack Sharp, relieving the team of his $9.25 million cap hit and allowing for roster adjustments.
In addition to this trade, the Oilers signed goaltender Frederik Andersen to a one-year, $2.75 million contract after losing Stuart Skinner to the Winnipeg Jets, aiming to bolster their goaltending depth.
Andersen's experience as a Stanley Cup champion with the Carolina Hurricanes adds stability to the Oilers' net. They also signed defenseman Ryan Shea to a five-year, $20 million deal and forward Max Jones to a one-year deal worth $850,000, enhancing their overall team depth.
Furthermore, the Oilers acquired goalie Devon Levi from the Buffalo Sabres for a third-round draft pick, marking a commitment to improve their goaltending situation moving forward. These roster changes reflect a strategic overhaul as the Oilers seek to bounce back after a disappointing playoff performance.
