Oilers defensemen Evan Bouchard and Darnell Nurse are set to represent Canada at the 2026 IIHF Men's World Championship, as reported by Daily Faceoff. Bouchard, who had a strong showing in the postseason with seven points in six games, will be making his debut for the senior national team, having last played internationally in 2019 at the World Junior Championship.
Nurse, on the other hand, is no stranger to international play, making his third appearance at the Men's Worlds after previously winning silver in 2019 and gold at the World Juniors in 2015. Meanwhile, the Oilers face a critical off-season following their shocking first-round playoff exit at the hands of the Anaheim Ducks.
According to Oilers Nation, management is under pressure to make impactful changes, especially after star players Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl openly criticized the team's performance during post-season press conferences.
Discussions around potential roster changes are ongoing, including trade talks involving Nurse, who was reportedly offered to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Nic Roy, although the deal did not materialize.
The Oilers' rivals, the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames, faced setbacks in the recent draft lottery, allowing the Oilers to maintain a competitive edge in the Pacific Division as they look towards the future.
