The Dallas Stars faced a critical Game 5 against the Minnesota Wild, ultimately losing 4-2 and putting themselves on the brink of playoff elimination. Kirill Kaprizov led the Wild with a goal and two assists, while Matt Boldy also contributed with a goal and an assist.
The Stars struggled in five-on-five situations, which has been a recurring issue throughout the series, leading them to fall behind 3-2 in this best-of-seven matchup. The Wild's Mats Zuccarello opened the scoring at 3:51 of the first period, followed by Miro Heiskanen equalizing for the Stars with a power-play goal at 8:58.
However, the Stars could not maintain momentum, and after pulling goalie Jake Oettinger late in the game, they managed to score to narrow the gap to 3-2, only for Kaprizov to seal the game with an empty-net goal.
Compounding the loss for Dallas, forward Arttu Hyry exited the game early due to a lower-body injury, raising concerns about the team's depth as they prepare for a must-win Game 6 in Minnesota on Thursday night.
The Stars will need to find a way to improve their five-on-five play to avoid further struggles as they aim to extend their playoff run against a formidable Wild team.
