The Dallas Stars secured a playoff position with a thrilling 4-3 shootout victory over the Buffalo Sabres, finishing their regular season with a commendable record of 50 wins, 20 losses, and 12 overtime losses, totaling 112 points.
Wyatt Johnston scored the decisive shootout goal, while Esa Lindell and Justin Hryckowian each contributed a goal and an assist. Mavrik Bourque also added his 20th goal of the season, showcasing the team's offensive depth as they entered a five-game winning streak.
However, the Stars will face challenges in the playoffs as top-line center Roope Hintz is set to miss the first two games against the Minnesota Wild due to a setback in his recovery from a lower-body injury.
Coach Glen Gulutzan confirmed Hintz's absence and noted that his return timeline remains uncertain. In contrast, defenseman Miro Heiskanen is expected to return, which would provide a significant boost to the team's defensive capabilities.
The Stars, now the second seed in the Central Division, are looking to make a deep playoff run, but the health of their key players will be crucial as they navigate the postseason landscape.
