The Dallas Stars and star winger Jason Robertson continue to struggle with contract negotiations, as reported by NHL insider Frank Seravalli. With Robertson set to become a restricted free agent on July 1, he is expected to seek a significant raise from his current $7.75 million salary, which he has earned over the past four seasons.

Seravalli notes that discussions have stalled, with Robertson's camp reportedly aiming for a salary in the $14 million range, while Stars general manager Jim Nill is hesitant to exceed the $12 million salary of Mikko Rantanen.

Nill is believed to prefer a deal closer to the $10.6 million that defenseman Thomas Harley will earn starting next year, indicating a considerable gap in expectations. Despite these challenges, ESPN's Emily Kaplan suggests there are positive signs that an agreement could be reached, with Nill stating that re-signing Robertson is a top priority.

Robertson, who will turn 27 in July, had an impressive season, tallying 96 points, which placed him 10th in league scoring. The Stars face financial constraints with only about $11 million in cap space available this summer, as they also look to retain other players including captain Jamie Benn and several others.

If a resolution cannot be found, the Stars may be forced to consider trading Robertson, who could attract interest from teams like the Washington Capitals, who have the resources to acquire him. Additionally, if the Stars cannot match a potential offer sheet for Robertson, they could lose him for significant draft compensation, further complicating the situation.
