Connor Hellebuyck made an impressive debut for the New Jersey Devils, securing a 5-1 victory over the Dallas Stars. Hellebuyck, who had been suspended by the Winnipeg Jets and missed all of training camp, stopped 16 of 17 shots in his first start since April.
The only goal he surrendered came on a tip-in by Justin Hryckowian, just moments after he made a crucial save against Matthew Seminoff. Hellebuyck's performance included a goals saved above expected of +0.67, indicating he met expectations in net as he saved seven of eight high-danger shots.
The Devils dominated the game, outshooting the Stars 27 to 17 and out-attempting them 58 to 37. Captain Nico Hischier led the offensive charge with two goals, while Jesper Boqvist and both Hughes brothers also contributed to the scoring.
With this win, the Devils extended their winning streak to four games and solidified their position in the Metropolitan Division, where they are contending with the Carolina Hurricanes. Hellebuyck's presence is expected to stabilize the goaltending, raising the team's competitive level significantly, making them a potential powerhouse in the league.
