Connor Bedard, the star center for the Chicago Blackhawks, has undergone successful surgery on his left shoulder and is expected to miss approximately four months, returning in early to mid-November. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Bedard suffered the injury during a skating session in Vancouver, where he fell into the boards and left the ice in visible pain.
This injury follows a right shoulder issue last season, causing him to miss 12 games. With Bedard sidelined, the Blackhawks will have to adjust their strategy, relying on other young players like Frank Nazar and Anton Frondell to step up in his absence.
The team, which finished with a 29-39-14 record last season, hopes to navigate through the early part of the season without their top scorer, who contributed 30 goals and 45 assists last year. General manager Kyle Davidson acknowledged the significance of Bedard's contributions as the team looks to improve from their recent rebuilding phase.
The Blackhawks' performance will be closely watched, especially since Bedard is also a restricted free agent and the injury could complicate contract negotiations. As noted by Yahoo Sports, the Blackhawks have not made a postseason appearance since the COVID-19 pandemic affected the 2020 season, and Bedard's absence poses a significant challenge as they aim for contention.
With Bedard missing training camp as well, the team must find ways to adjust and keep momentum as they prepare for the upcoming season.
