Zach Werenski's future with the Columbus Blue Jackets remains unclear, as both he and Kirill Marchenko reportedly do not intend to sign contract extensions. According to The Hockey News, Werenski, who is the Blue Jackets' top player and a Norris Trophy winner, has two years left on his contract, allowing GM Don Waddell time to explore trade options.
Eight to ten teams, including the Dallas Stars and Philadelphia Flyers, have already shown interest in him. Meanwhile, Marchenko is also eligible for arbitration next July, but his camp has indicated he is unlikely to sign an extension as well.
On a more positive note, the Blue Jackets have extended qualifying offers to restricted free agents Adam Fantilli, Cole Sillinger, Luke Tuch, and Jet Greaves, which is crucial for retaining key talents.
Notably, they did not tender qualifying offers to Stanislav Svozil and Egor Zamula, making them unrestricted free agents. Additionally, the Blue Jackets have re-signed center Jack Williams to a two-year contract extension, reflecting their commitment to building a competitive roster.
Williams, who joined the organization after a successful NCAA career, may provide depth for the team in the near future. The excitement continues with the recent NHL Draft, where the Blue Jackets selected Finnish forward Oscar Hemming with the 14th pick, a move that aims to bolster their roster with young talent.
