The Winnipeg Jets and center Cole Perfetti have finalized a five-year contract worth $30 million, successfully avoiding salary arbitration. This deal, which carries a $6 million salary cap hit, secures Perfetti's role in the team's future until he becomes eligible for unrestricted free agency in 2031.
At just 24 years old, Perfetti, who was drafted 10th overall by the Jets in 2020, has shown potential despite a dip in performance last season, recording 12 goals and 20 assists over 68 games. His new contract indicates the Jets' commitment to investing in young talent as they aim to rebound after missing the playoffs last season.
General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff has approximately $5.5 million in cap space remaining, allowing for further roster adjustments as the team looks to strengthen its lineup moving forward. Perfetti's performance metrics indicate he still leads in shot attempts and expected goals at 5-on-5, reinforcing the Jets' belief that he can elevate his game in the coming seasons.
