The Chicago Blackhawks participated in the 2026 NHL Prospect Combine held in Buffalo, New York, from June 1 to 6. This event featured 90 top prospects who underwent interviews and fitness testing in preparation for the upcoming NHL Entry Draft on June 26-27.
The Blackhawks, holding the fourth overall pick, face significant decisions based on the selections made by the Toronto Maple Leafs, San Jose Sharks, and Vancouver Canucks ahead of them. General Manager Kyle Davidson emphasized that the team focuses on interviewing prospects rather than treating them to dinner, a strategy that proved successful with their 2024 second overall pick, Artyom Levshunov.
Davidson expressed confidence in their assessment process, stating that the Combine serves as a final validation of their research. Key prospects of interest include defenseman Chase Reid, center Caleb Malhotra, and winger Ivar Stenberg, all of whom the Hawks are closely monitoring.
Malhotra notably excelled in fitness testing, ranking in the top ten in several categories, while Reid and Stenberg were also highlighted for their potential fit with the Blackhawks roster. With uncertainties around the top three picks, the Blackhawks are prepared to make a significant decision that could shape their future roster and competitive outlook.
Insight from the Combine indicates that if they stay at the fourth spot, they are likely to secure a strong player who could contribute to their rebuilding efforts.
