Logan Stankoven is making a significant impact as the second-line center for the Carolina Hurricanes during the NHL playoffs. The 23-year-old has been a crucial part of the Hurricanes' success, scoring in every game of their first-round sweep against the Ottawa Senators.
Stankoven, who has been rolling at nearly a point-per-game pace since mid-March, recorded 10 goals and six assists in his last 18 regular-season games, followed by four goals and an assist in the playoff series against Ottawa.
Stankoven's line, featuring veteran Taylor Hall and fellow young player Jackson Blake, has provided a vital offensive boost, particularly as the top line struggled to find their rhythm. General manager Eric Tulsky noted Stankoven's height is often a concern, but emphasized his fighting spirit and potential in the role.
The Hurricanes have struggled to find a consistent second-line center since Vincent Trocheck left for the New York Rangers in 2022, and Stankoven's strong performance indicates he may be the long-term solution.
He transitioned from wing to center after being traded from Dallas to Carolina, and while he faced challenges early on, including a learning curve with faceoffs, he has shown significant improvement, particularly in defensive-zone faceoffs.
This growth has been crucial for the Hurricanes, who are focused on puck possession and aggressive forechecking. As the team heads into the second round of the playoffs against the Philadelphia Flyers, Stankoven's continued development will be essential in their quest for a Stanley Cup.
