The Carolina Hurricanes have announced a significant change in their ownership structure with the addition of former NHL player Bobby Farnham, along with Brett Jefferson and Marc Grandisson, as minority owners.
According to Daily Faceoff, this decision follows majority owner Tom Dundon's agreement to sell a 12.5% stake in the team for approximately $332.5 million, at a valuation of $2.66 billion. Dundon remarked that the new owners are accomplished business executives whose experiences will help in growing the team's success and impact in the Triangle area, where Jefferson and Grandisson will have a locally-based influence.
Farnham, a former NHL forward who played 67 games from 2014 to 2017, brings a unique perspective as both a former player and a business executive after co-founding Fourth Line Capital post-retirement. Grandisson has a background in the insurance industry, having worked with Berkshire Hathaway, while Jefferson founded Hildene Capital Management.
The Hurricanes have seen a turnaround since Dundon purchased the team in 2018, making the playoffs every season since then, as noted by Yahoo Sports.
