The offseason has seen discussions around restricted free agent Alexander Nikishin, who is reportedly seeking $8 million per season.

However, the Hurricanes are unlikely to make him their highest-paid defenseman, with KAndre Miller at $7.5 million and Slavin at $6.396 million. With 20 players under contract through 2027 and 15 through 2028, the Hurricanes are maintaining continuity while remaining open to future moves, particularly regarding Nikishin's situation.
