The Carolina Hurricanes recently celebrated their second Stanley Cup victory by engraving the names of the entire team, including owner Tom Dundon's family, onto the trophy. This ceremony took place nearly a month after their championship win and is significant as it continues the tradition of honoring those who contributed to the team's success.
A total of 53 names were engraved, including 24 players and 22 staff members like general manager Eric Tulsky and head coach Rod Brind'Amour, as well as Tom Dundon and his wife, Veruschka, along with their five children.
This inclusion of family names has stirred some criticism, but it is not an uncommon practice, as other team owners have similarly included their families in past engravings. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes have also made strategic roster moves; they re-signed defenseman Aleksi Heimosalmi to a one-year extension, reflecting their commitment to maintaining depth on defense as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Heimosalmi, a 23-year-old Finnish national, showed promising performance in the AHL with the Chicago Wolves last season. The Hurricanes are poised for the next season, having navigated injuries throughout the last season to finish with the best record in their conference, demonstrating their resilience and depth.
