The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Ottawa Senators 2-1 in Game 3 of their first-round playoff series, taking a commanding 3-0 lead. Logan Stankoven, who opened the scoring for the Hurricanes just five minutes into the game, marked his third consecutive game with a goal.
The play showcased the effectiveness of the Stankoven-Blake-Hall line, with Taylor Hall assisting on the goal after a rebound from his shot. Despite the Senators out-hitting the Hurricanes in the first period and generating early crowd energy, they struggled to capitalize on power plays, going 0-3 on the night.
On the injury front, Senators defenseman Jake Sanderson left the game following a hit from Hall, which prompted frustration from Senators coach Travis Green, who called for a more severe penalty on the play.
Sanderson's exit and the Senators' inability to overcome a strong Hurricanes defense, anchored by goaltender Frederik Andersen, proved pivotal as they failed to claw back after Drake Batherson's goal tied the game briefly.
The Hurricanes now sit one win away from sweeping the series, with Game 4 scheduled for Saturday, April 25.
