The Pittsburgh Penguins are reportedly eyeing Calgary Flames defenseman Zach Whitecloud as a potential trade target. Following their 1-0 overtime loss to the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 6, the Penguins are looking to make roster improvements during the off-season.
Whitecloud, who has a $2.75 million cap hit until the end of the 2027-28 season, could serve as a strong addition to the Penguins' bottom pairing and penalty kill, while also having the versatility to move up the lineup if necessary.
This comes as the Flames are undergoing a rebuilding phase, leading to speculation that they may be open to offers for Whitecloud, who recorded two goals and 15 assists for a total of 17 points, along with 124 hits and 140 blocks in 78 games this season, split between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Flames.
The interest from the Penguins suggests possible upcoming changes in the Flames' defensive lineup, further shaping their team strategy moving forward.
