Calgary Flames legend Jarome Iginla has recently opened up about his ongoing health struggles, specifically neurological issues that have significantly affected his quality of life. In an interview with Sportsnet's Eric Francis, Iginla, now 49, revealed that he is dealing with undiagnosed health problems that have impacted his energy, weight, and speech.
He speculated that these issues might stem from metal toxins related to his cobalt hip replacement surgery. Iginla stated, 'I need more time to figure it all out, but I'm still hopeful that I will recover fully.' Concerns about his health became prominent after a clip from the Amazon Prime series 'Hometown Giants' showed Iginla speaking with a noticeably weaker voice.
The former NHL star has been in consultations with various medical professionals for over a year to get clarity on his condition. His health issues arose following complications from hip surgery and the subsequent medications which have compounded his difficulties.
Iginla, who is the Flames' all-time leader in games played, goals, and points, continues to focus on his family, with his children pursuing careers in hockey, including his son, Joe, who was drafted by the Flames.
