The Calgary Flames recently made headlines by trading forward Blake Coleman and defenseman Olli Maatta to the Minnesota Wild. In exchange, the Flames received defenseman Jacob Middleton and three draft picks, including a second-round pick in 2029 and two third-round picks in 2027 and 2028, according to ESPN.

This trade marks a significant roster change for the Flames, especially with Coleman, who has a decade of NHL experience and notched 20 goals last season, and Maatta, a veteran known for his defensive skills, leaving the team.

Additionally, the Flames have been active in restructuring their goaltending situation after David Rittich signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the New Jersey Devils, ending his tenure with Calgary.

Rittich, who went undrafted before joining the Flames in 2016, has had a varied career across several teams, including a stint with the Islanders last season. Meanwhile, the Flames are also focusing on their future, as prospects Theo Stockselius and Tobias Trejbal were selected for summer World Junior camps, highlighting the team's commitment to player development.

Stockselius, previously a silver medalist at the Under-18 World Championships, will represent Sweden, while Trejbal, who excelled in the USHL, will play for Czechia. Finally, the Calgary Wranglers, the Flames' AHL affiliate, have bolstered their roster by signing three forwards, including Carter Wilkie and Luke Philp, as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Wilkie, a Calgary native, had a promising first pro season, while Philp brings experience after playing with the Heat during their bubble season and making his NHL debut with the Chicago Blackhawks last year.
