The Calgary Flames have announced a new, shorter pre-season schedule for the 2026-27 season, featuring just four games. According to Flames Nation, the team will host the Seattle Kraken on September 20 and the Vancouver Canucks on September 22 at Scotiabank Saddledome, before heading on the road for games in Seattle on September 24 and Edmonton on September 26.
This change comes as part of a new collective bargaining agreement, with the regular season expanding to 84 games but the pre-season being significantly reduced. Oddsmakers have placed the Flames at +35,000 odds to win the Stanley Cup this season, making them one of the least likely contenders, as reported by Yahoo Sports.
The Flames enter this rebuilding phase after a disappointing 2025-26 season where they finished 34-39-9, ranking 29th overall. Management has already made significant roster changes, trading several veteran players such as Rasmus Andersson and Nazem Kadri while looking to develop young talent.
Flames prospects like Zayne Parekh, Matvei Gridin, and Hunter Brzustewicz are expected to earn NHL ice time this upcoming season. With several pending free agents, including Blake Coleman, the Flames face uncertainty as they navigate their roster strategy during this transition period, as mentioned by Flames Nation.
