The Calgary Flames have been mathematically eliminated from Stanley Cup playoff contention following a 4-3 overtime loss to the Dallas Stars. This defeat, combined with the Nashville Predators' 5-0 win against the Anaheim Ducks, sealed the Flames' fate, leaving them with 73 points from 77 games and a record of 32-36-9.
With five games remaining, the highest point total they could achieve is 83, which is insufficient for playoff qualification as eight teams have already surpassed that total. This marks the fourth consecutive year without playoff hockey for the Flames, who last made the postseason in 2022 when they finished first in the Pacific Division.
The team has undergone significant roster changes under General Manager Craig Conroy, who has traded key players like Rasmus Andersson and Nazem Kadri in a bid to rebuild. The Flames hope to fare better in the upcoming NHL draft, where they have the third-best odds in the lottery.
With high-end talent available, the Flames cannot afford to miss on their draft picks, hoping to develop a sustainable contender for the future.
