The Buffalo Sabres are gearing up for a challenging 2026-27 NHL season, with their schedule now finalized and set to feature 84 games from October 1 to April 10. Notably, they will face the Montreal Canadiens in a playoff rematch, which is expected to test their mettle as they strive to build on last season's success.
However, the offseason has raised concerns among fans and analysts alike, particularly after the trade of winger Alex Tuch and defenseman Bowen Byram, which has been deemed one of the worst offseason moves in the league according to The Athletic's Dom Luszczyszyn.
While the Sabres' general manager, Jarmo Kekalainen, cited financial concerns for not extending Tuch, who signed with the Washington Capitals, the team has yet to make significant additions, leaving the roster's competitiveness in question.
Furthermore, excitement is building for Tuch's return to Buffalo, where he is expected to receive a warm welcome from fans who appreciate his contributions during his five seasons with the Sabres. On an organizational level, three Sabres executives, including associate GM Marc Bergevin, are being considered for the general manager role with the Detroit Red Wings, highlighting the growing reputation of Buffalo's front office in the NHL.
