The Boston Bruins made a significant roster move by trading former first-round pick Fabian Lysell to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for forward Ivan Ivan. Lysell, who was drafted 21st overall in 2021, had a disappointing tenure with the Bruins, appearing in only 12 NHL games and recording just one goal and two assists.
Ivan, at 23 years old, brings experience with 66 games played in the AHL last season, where he scored 11 goals and 15 assists. General Manager Don Sweeney expressed optimism about Ivan's versatility and experience in the league, viewing the change of scenery as beneficial for both players.
In addition to this trade, the Bruins were active during the 2026 NHL Draft, adding seven new prospects, including two goalies and several skilled wingers, which may reshape the team's future. Notably, they parted with two first-round picks to acquire 24-year-old winger JJ Peterka, highlighting their commitment to securing top talent to support their current core, including David Pastrnak and Charlie McAvoy.
This aggressive approach aims to build a strong pipeline of talent moving forward, especially after a period of limited draft selections. Furthermore, longtime Bruins announcer Jack Edwards is finding his voice again with the help of artificial intelligence, following his retirement due to a speech condition.
Edwards, who had called Bruins games for 19 years, is using an AI-aided voice-clone app to regain his broadcasting capabilities, showcasing the evolving landscape of sports commentary.
