The Boston Bruins have made significant offseason moves, beginning with the trade of forward Andre Gasseau to the San Jose Sharks. In this deal, the Bruins received the 104th and 157th overall picks in exchange for Gasseau and the 120th overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.
Gasseau, who was selected by the Bruins in the seventh round of the 2021 NHL Draft, spent four seasons at Boston College and was the team captain in his final year. He scored 111 points in 135 NCAA games but is not currently projected as a game-changer at the NHL level, instead adding depth in the AHL and ECHL for the Sharks.
Additionally, the Bruins announced that they will retire Patrice Bergeron's No. 37 next season, honoring his 19-year career with the team. This ceremony will add Bergeron to the ranks of other legends like Zdeno Chara, marking a significant moment for the franchise and its fans.
As the Bruins prepare for a challenging Atlantic Division, they are also rumored to be exploring trades for defensemen, including Darnell Nurse of the Edmonton Oilers and Bowen Byram of the Buffalo Sabres, indicating a proactive approach to building a competitive roster moving forward.
Finally, the Bruins are focused on the upcoming 2026 NHL Draft, where they plan to select the best player available, aiming to address long-term needs, particularly for a top-six center and a right-shot defenseman.
